What we are looking for:

• Friendly and outgoing person; comfortable working with a variety of people
• An experienced driver with a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record with no demerit points.
• Keen interest in working with seniors (and seniors with physical limitations and/or dementia)
• Good communication skills with a clear voice; compassionate and patient.
• Physically able to carry out the duties of the role, safely and appropriately.
• Willing to have a criminal records check, tuberculosis test, and driver check completed before hiring.

Qualifications:

• Three years or more bus driving experience (required for insurance purposes – sorry no exceptions)
• F Class license (F class is the minimum. May also have C, B, or E bus licenses).
• Comfort in working in a Retirement Residence setting (previous experience in this area is an asset)
• Current First Aid and CPR, or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire date.

Tasks:

• Promoting a social and caring atmosphere, focusing attention and time on the residents
• Organizing and executing weekly Medical Shuttle (some admin/computer skills are required)
• Ensuring the residents get to their medical appointments on time
• Helping with mobility aids and providing personal assistance when required
• Assisting the Activities Manager in planning routes for outings in and around the Ottawa area
• Complete trip inspection report for each outing, including a circle check of the vehicle, before the outing begins
• Assisting where needed and where appropriate in the event of an emergency occurring on an outing
• Remains with the group during outing time, assists with an outing as needed
• Assisting and running activities when the bus is not out
• Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English

Additional information:

• Current COVID-19 Requirements include: a rapid test taken each day before shift start, must wear a medical-grade mask when working, and must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19. Masks and rapid test kits provided by Redwoods
• We are looking for a self-starter who takes initiative and brings a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and positive energy to the position
• Redwoods will cover costs associated with outings, including admission fees and the cost of meals on lunch outings
